Studykorean, which is administered by the Department of Educational Project in the Overseas Korean Foundation under the authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, began in February, 2003 under the objective of providing Korean teenagers abroad to learn Korean on the web and to link them with their biological and cultural heritage and other Korean societies overseas.

Cyber Korean Class for Korean teenagers abroad was built on opinions and advices of teachers in the field of teaching Korean overseas. It is constructed in a way that allows Korean teenagers abroad to continuously learn speaking, listening, reading, and writing Korean in thorough consideration of their academic interest and psychological characteristics. The configuration of multimedia elements and games on the website is designed to motivate the teenagers to learn and exercise Korean.

Unlike other projects of teaching Korean to Korean teenagers abroad, the Cyber Korean Class on Studykorean enable students and the system developers to ask and answer questions, thereby fuelling effective communication. The class also offers teachings and lessons not only on Korean, but on the Korean culture in general in an attempt to help Korean teenagers abroad establish their ethnic identities. Surveys that take place on a regular basis are tools used to identify and reflect on the demands of the teenagers.

Studykorean Foundation is always striving toward finding new and more effective measures to systematically teach Korean teenagers and foreigners on the Korean language and culture.
