Latin characters
Latin characters consist of 26 alphabets that are used widely in English,
French and other European countries. Latin characters originated from
the ancient Egyptian letters. The original Egyptian letters were derived
into Greek letters, and Romans began to use them to write the spoken Latin
language. Latin characters first started out with 19 letters, but K, X,
Y, Z were later added by from the Greek characters. In the 12th century,
J was derived from I and U derived from V. In the 13th century, W was
formed from U, which finally brought to 26 alphabets.

¡®Han-Ja¡¯, the Chinese Character
¡®Han-Ja¡¯ is what we call Chinese character (we will not refer it as Chinese
characters). It first started from the hieroglyphics and then eventually
became the Chinese characters of today. In ancient China, people engraved
their fortune-telling results on a turtle's back, which was the beginning
of Chinese characters. Because Chinese characters have a meaning for each
letter, with different pronunciations, you can pass a meaning with just
one letter. Chinese characters were not only used in China, but it was
also used in other Asian countries like Korea and Japan. Because Chinese
characters are so elaborate and hard to write, the Chinese people today
created a simpler form of Chinese characters to use.

Arabic characters
Arabic characters are the second most widely used characters in the world,
following Latin characters. It is used in Arabia and many countries in
northern Africa. Arabic characters consist of 28 consonants. Unlike other
characters, Arabic characters are written from right to left, and numbers
are written from left to right. Also, all the characters are connected
and even though it is the same character, depending on the location, the
shape changes. There are two different shapes in writing Arabic characters.
Kufic script is used to write the Koran, the Islamic bible, and in daily
writings, Nashki is used.

'Hangul', the Korean character
Hangul is the name of the Korean written language. Before the Hangul was
invented, although people spoke the Korean language spoken today, they
wrote in Chinese character. Sejong felt that it was inconvenient to speak
and write two different languages, so in 1443, he created Hangul. Hangul
is the only language in Korea where the creator of the language and the
date it was created is exactly recorded. Hangul consists of 40 characters.
Of this, 19 characters are consonants. They were made from the patterns
of the people's mouth, teeth, tongue, and throat when they speak. There
are 21 vowels, which was made from the combination of sky(¡¤), land(-),
and human(l). |
