Women inside currencies (money)
Who is in your country's currency? Usually, each country places a famous
person who did something notable for the country in their currency. However,
women are not often seen on currencies. The woman most commonly seen on
currencies is Queen Elizabeth II of England. She appears on the currencies
of 15 countries, including the countries under England's rule, on 32 different
kinds of paper money. In Australia's paper money, a man appears on one
side and a woman on the other. Gabriel Mistral, the first person to receive
the Nobel Prize in Literature, appears on Chile's 5000 peso money bill,
while Cut Nyak Din, who fought against the Netherlands in the independent
movement, appears on Indonesia's one million rupiah.

Female recipients of the Nobel Prize
In 1895, when the Nobel Prize was first established, women were not allowed
to get high education. Today, women and men are both allowed to achieve
any level of education they wish, but women recipients of the Nobel Prize
are not common. Up to year 2003, there are a total of 736 recipients of
the award, but only 31 of them were women. The most representative of
them were Marie Curie, winner of the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics and of
the 1911 Nobel Prize Chemistry, Mother Theresa, winner of the 1979 Nobel
Peace Prize, Nadine Gordimer, winner of the 1979 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Female Presidents
In 1893, New Zealand was the first country to allow women to participate
in government work, but most countries accepted women's participation
in government after the 20th century. World's first female president was
Isabel Peron, who was elected as the president of Argentina in 1974. Following
such unprecedented event, Ireland's Mary Robinson and Philippine's Corazon
Aquino were also elected as presidents. Female politicians are growing
in Korea as well. Maybe a female president will get elected in Korea one
day.
